Introduction
BMW introduced the C1 at an auto show in Cologen, Germany in the year 1992. The company proclaimed to have introduced a bike that has advantages of two wheeled motorized transportation having the strengths of a four wheeled automobile. Dealerships The BMW C1 had very good dealerships across entire Europe. The whole idea of introducing the BMW C1 was to provide a very convenient means of commuting to the customer without any associated dangers involved in driving. BMW had put up a lot of emphasis on the safety of passenger when it introduced the BMW C1 motorcycle. The selling point of the motorcycle was its safety as the company claimed that it had installed the same anti collision system that was found in other four wheeled vehicles. Safety Features BMW also claimed that the motorcycle was so safe that the rider could take it out without wearing a helmet. As a result, the sales of the BMW C1 and many dealerships opened all over Europe in a short period of time. Coming to the safety features, the BMW C1 motorcycle has two shoulder height rollbars, an aluminum roll cage and a crumple around the front wheel. It also has twin seatbelts for the driver as well as the pillion rider. Sales The large number of distributors ensures that the bike accessories are easily available. Countries like Spain, Germany, Italy and France had made an exception for helmet not compulsory for the BMW C1. However the sales of the BMW C1 motorcycle began to see a down word trend in Europe because of the British Government declining permission for a helmet free ride on Britain’s streets. The company managed to sell 10,614 bikes in 2001 which was followed by the sale of 2,000 units in 2002. BMW was not able to enter the US market for the BMW C1 motorcycle. The BMW C1 is not produced anymore, but it still finds a place as a collector’s item as well as some of the F1 Grand Prix teams. The average given by the super bike was 80 miles per gallon. The motorbike had a 125 cc displacement with 15 bhp output.
